Cameron Porter

Cameron Porter, General Partner at Steel Atlas, leads research and technical underwriting. Prior to founding Steel Atlas, Cameron drove R&D for incubations and early stage technology investments at AlleyCorp, one of the world's leading venture studios (DoubleClick, MongoDB ($30b+), Business Insider…). Under Kevin Ryan's leadership, he helped scale the firm as the 4th team member to a $500M+ venture fund and incubator.

Cameron was also professional soccer player in Major League Soccer (MLS) where he was simultaneously hired by the League's front office as an engineer. He was also elected by his team as their representative to the player's union. 


Cameron studied Computer Science at Princeton University (2015), where he was recognized as an Academic All-American and led the NCAA in scoring for men's soccer.

Talal Attieh

Talal Attieh, General Partner at Steel Atlas, has spent his career investing in and partnering with early-stage industrial technology companies in the US & Europe alongside the top venture capitalists in the world (a16z, Founders Fund, Union Square Ventures etc.). Talal ran the venture arm of a multi-billion dollar investment advisory firm in Los Angeles prior to founding Steel Atlas.

Post-investment, Talal specializes in establishing joint ventures and partnerships between portfolio companies and the largest conglomerates and family businesses in Saudi Arabia through his Attieh Steel network, a legacy steel player in the Kingdom. Talal studied Economics at the University of Southern California (2019).

Alex Laplaza

Alex Laplaza is a Venture Partner at Steel Atlas and a Director at Rainmaker, a next-generation water resilience company where he leads international partnerships, government relations, and sales.

Prior to Rainmaker, Alex was a Partner and the first-hire at Lowercarbon Capital where he raised and deployed $2 billion into clean energy, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, and carbon removal. Alex also led Lowercarbon's investments in resilience and emerging markets.

Alex was a Fulbright Scholar in Indonesia and holds a Masters in International Policy from Stanford University.
